I blame the rules of rugby

Howdy ho!

In the words of Timbaland, “It has been a long time since I left you, without a dope beat to step too”.

I have been slack especially with regards to blogging; the simplest summary is that I was not in a good place.

As looking back hurts the neck, let’s just look forward to today’s reading, so are we comfortable? Well if not loosen your belt, get a cup of tea and let’s begin.

Today’s cryptic title for the blog is somewhat tongue in check, however, Rugby is a strange game for one reason and that is the illegal move of a ‘forward pass’, I am not trying to blame or slight the game, I was a mean flanker in my day (number 7) but it is a game that does tend to err on the defensive side.

Is everyone happy out there?

The recession, media, fashion, sport and music are driving us to be more introspective and retrospective with their messages as we all long for good times lost. As we all look back this can diminish any chance of hope we have for the future.

The New Year is always a time where we encourage hope and the ignite goals and vision so we can make that positive change in our lives for the up-coming 12-months. I worked this New Years Eve and watched the bells and fireworks on the TV in the Bar and was astounded that the montage of clips of 2010 that were played was of negative events or disasters.

I once used to ask a question when interviewing people for Managers roles, and that was “How do you remain positive when surrounded by so much negativity?” I suppose the answer for what happened on New Year’s Eve would be to 1. Opt out of watching Television, 2. Opt out from reading Newspapers and 3. Opt out from speaking with Negative people.

However back to reality this is of course not possible, I suppose the best we can do is to be our own light in a dark room.

The light within can only be created by the individual, however one piece of guidance is to always look forward and not dwell on the past.

So what’s in store for the future? Well maybe I need to agree with myself about that point and make a public commitment.

I will through that forward pass, collect the ball again and score a spectacular try. The beauty of this is that I can repeat the process again. Even if the pass is blocked, just get back in position and try again.

I will write more often.
